Copernicus: the 8th European Report on the State of the Ocean has been published

The eighth updated edition of the Copernicus Ocean State Report (OSR8) was recently published together with a summary for policy makers and the public. This year's report shows a particularly anomalous state of the seas and oceans, with an increasingly marked warming of water masses and an increase in the frequency and magnitude of extreme events, marine heat waves, sea ice melt and phytoplankton blooms. However, the report also contains positive statements on the progress made in marine monitoring and the prospects for sustainable use of the marine environment.
