In the Laboratory, OGS develops cost-effective (or low-cost) GNSS receivers for geodetic monitoring. The instruments are used in the study of crustal deformations, in landslide and structural monitoring systems and in all applications for geo-referenced land surveys also in real time.
This activity, carried out in close collaboration with the private sector, has allowed the first prototypes, called LZER0, to enter the market.
OGS is also involved in the development of strong-motion cost-effective instrumentation that is also used for the structural monitoring of buildings. This activity is carried out in collaboration with the private sector, which provides sites for testing the instruments and software developed. An example is the site in Somplago (Cavazzo Carnico) where both the instrumentation and the software dedicated to seismic early-warning are tested.
