The laboratory of terrestrial geology includes the onshore geological research activities carried out by OGS, based on outcrop, geophysical, core and DEM data.
These activities include:
- sedimentological-stratigraphic;
- structural and geomorphological studies;
- micropaleontological and petrographic analyses and geological survey.
Regarding the geophysical data, a close synergy with the exploration geophysical infrastructure is promoted.
The activities of the laboratory of terrestrial geology provide an important contribution in the context of research projects that include basin analysis, in particular for the reconstruction of the geological evolution of sedimentary basins in the regional geodynamic framework, and in those involving geohazard studies linked to the presence of active faults and/or landslides. The activities carried out are also suited to the study of reservoir analogues related to both the extraction of hydrocarbons and the storage of gas, as well as to the study of water resources.
