The Technological development and support for acquisitions in the field (TEC) infrastructure groups the expertise related to developing technologies for the acquisition, treatment and first interpretation of oceanographic data, as well as the realization and management of observational networks for operational and experimental oceanography, with particular attention to meteo-marine buoys, the maintenance of measurement systems and the management and installation of marine instrumentation.
The activity of technological development is focused on the fields of operational oceanography and consists of the design and implementation of complete observational systems or parts of them.
In addition to these activities, TEC offers operational support to the work of other research groups of the department, in particular to PHYS for the activities related to the buoy E2M3A of the Southern Adriatic observing site and to the HF-Radar activity, to BIOCHEM for the activities related to the Gulf of Trieste Observing Platform (MAMBO1-Miramare buoy) and participates with its own personnel in the oceanographic activities of the OGS in the polar seas.
The staff of the infrastructure consists of 8 units: 2 technologists and 6 technicians.
The infrastructure manages the mechanical and electronics laboratories, the testing tank and collaborates in an organic and structured way with the Oceanographic Calibration Centre.
