The European researchers' night is back to Trieste

Trieste, along with hundreds of other cities across Europe, will come alive on Friday 30 September with the European Night of Researchers, the European initiative involving 14 cities in Italy, as part of the SHARPER project organised in Trieste by Imaginario Scientifico in collaboration with the Department of Education and Family Policy of the Municipality of Trieste and the scientific institutions of Trieste Citta della Conoscenza.

Oceans, climate change, sustainable development, but also astrophysics and research into the mechanisms of pain are among the topics covered in games, shows, lectures and demonstrations. OGS, one of the initiative's partners, will also be present at a series of events at Porto Vecchio.

9.30 am-5.30 pm (closing event at 5pm, Immaginario Scientifico), "Steps towards climatic neutrality". A walk from the karst to the sea to illustrate the impact of climate change on our planet, from the melting of glaciers to the destruction of marine ecosystems. Curated by Area Science Park, in collaboration with CNR-ISP and OGS.

6 pm-6.50 pm - Immaginario scientifico, “The ABC of sea and oceans”. A quiz to discover the threats and impacts of marine pollution on biodiversity, marine and terrestrial habitats and human health. Curated by OGS.

6 pm -7.30 pm - Immaginario scientifico, “Climate Refugees: Let’s start talking about it”. A discussion game that encourages participants to think together and deeply about the phenomenon. Curated by OGS.

7 pm - 7.50 pm – Immaginario scientifico, “The seabottom tells us about the climate of the past”. A demonstration on ocean basin sedimentation to discover the invaluable archive of information hidden at the bottom of the sea. Curated by OGS.

From 4 pm to 11 pm, “Researchers on Board!”. It’s possible to reach Magazzino 26 on the SHARPER shuttle bus, which connects the city centre with the Old Port (departure every 30 minutes from Piazza Unità d'Italia, on the Rive side of the Prefecture). Share scientific stories on board with researchers from CNR-IOM, INAF Trieste, the Trieste Natural History Museum and OGS.

There are also special initiatives for schools from 26 to 30 September and the exhibition "Earthquakes in Italy" at the Trieste Convention Centre in Porto Vecchio until 8 October.

All the events are free and open to te public but registration is required. They will be held in Italian. Full programme: https://www.sharper-night.it/sharper-trieste/
