The icebreaker Laura Bassi sets sail for Antarctica
The Italian icebreaker Laura Bassi has left the port of Lyttelton in New Zealand and is on its way to Antarctica. This marked the start of the mission planned for the 38th campaign in Antarctica, funded by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) under the National Research Programme for Antarctica (PNRA) and managed by the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) for logistical planning and by the National Research Council (CNR) for scientific planning.
This year, activities aboard the vessel Laura Bassi, owned by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS), will take place over two months, during which two different oceanographic campaigns will be carried out. During the two sections in the Ross Sea, 28 researchers will take turns to carry out the research activities envisaged under 8 projects funded by the PNRA and in collaboration with the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy.
