MEFISTO project results has been presented in Southampton

MEFISTO and OGS researchers participated in the Quasimeme workshop on Quality Assurance for Inorganic Carbon System Measurements in the context of Ocean Acidification Monitoring and Marine CO2 Removal Technologies held at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK.
During the event, the results of the carbonate system analyses from the first three MEFISTO sampling campaigns were presented in the form of a poster, which was met with great interest by the international researchers and delegates attending the workshop. The event proved to be a great networking opportunity where state-of-the-art carbonate system analysis techniques, new instruments and software were discussed and presented.

MEFISTO, coordinated by OGS and carried out in collaboration with INGV, is a project presented under the PRIN 2022 PNRR call and funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU. It aims to contribute to reducing uncertainties in methane (CH4) flow estimates by providing new data related to emissions in shallow marine-coastal environments, where, through bubble-mediated transport along the water column, this greenhouse gas can be released directly into the atmosphere.
