Sustainable Blue Economy: The Path for Bosnia and Herzegovina

The ‘Workshop on best practices from EU policies and strategies to achieve sustainable blue economy: what path for Bosnia and Herzegovina?’ took place successfully in Sarajevo this week, held within the framework of two projects involving the OGS.

The one-day event, organised by the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) and OGS, featured two round table discussions on best practices from EU policies and strategies on sustainable blue economy and state of the art of the blue economy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in addition to a focus group debate at the end. The workshop kicked off with welcoming words from the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Embassy of Italy in Sarajevo.

Two ongoing projects paved the way for this event:

  • TRUE BLUE - CEI support to Training and Research to Unlock and Enhance the potential of sustainable BLUE Economy for regional cooperation and EU integration, co-funded by the Central European Initiative - CEI and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic through the Know-How Exchange Program (KEP). Led by OGS, TRUE BLUE aims to further science diplomacy through capacity building activities to transfer knowledge to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania to support their advancement towards EU integration, promoting regional cooperation, in terms of know-how transfer on sustainable blue economy.
  • ASAP - Adriatic Sensitive Areas Protection – Mechanism, co-funded by the European Union and the Interreg IPA Adrion programme. Led by the Central European Initiative Executive Secretariat – CEI (Italy), the project aims at transferring knowledge and best practices from that area to the whole Adriatic basin in order to strengthen maritime protection from the effects of the spill-over of pollutants, especially in case of big-scale accidents at sea that need to be faced at joint transnational level, with a view to establishing a Permanent Coordination Platform.
