Ric Williams conducts research on the climate response to carbon emissions. He is a Chair in Ocean Sciences at University of Liverpool.
He did a Physics degree at Bristol University, a Masters in Atmospheric Sciences at Imperial College, a PhD in Ocean Sciences at UEA. He worked as a researcher at Imperial College and then at MIT, USA as NOAA Research fellow, before moving to University of Liverpool. He is now a co-lead of the University research theme “Climate Futures", which is addressing the research challenges of the science, societal response and solutions in climate change and the need to move to net zero carbon.
He is a climate scientist interested in the role of the ocean in the climate system, addressing how the ocean provides climate and carbon feedbacks that affect the planet response to carbon emissions. With expertise in ocean dynamics and the transfer of heat, nutrients and carbon in the global ocean, Williams has experience in ocean and climate modelling, including assessing model responses in terms of theory and in comparing with the available data.
