DILEMMA
Imaging, Modeling, Monitoring and Design of Earthen Levees
The DILEMMA project aims to define a robust and comprehensive procedure for the assessment of river enbankment instability.
The Working Group consists of Politecnico of Milan, (project coordinator), the University of Parma (UNIPR) and OGS.
The project is divided in several Work Packages and tasks:
- Selection of typical river embankment types by geometry and by anomaly position (top, body, bottom);
- Fast dual geophysical (Electro-magnetic and Radar) and geomatic imaging;
- Monitoring of critical sectors (Resistivity tomography and optical fibers);
- Modeling of the correlation between seeping water and changes in geophysical parameters;
- Modeling for the inversion of geophysical parameters of anomalous sections to geotechnical-hydraulic properties;
- Geotechnical modeling aimed at assessing hydraulic criticalities;
- Definition of a consistent levee assessment protocol to be transferred to stakeholders.
