TRECap

Trezze, tegnue and marine environments of the Upper Adriatic: Capitalisation

The TRECap capitalization project builds on the earlier experience of the TRETAMARA project, which aimed to enhance the biogenic and geogenic heritage of the northern Adriatic.

The analysis of the current management of protected areas carried out within the framework of TRETAMARA has revealed a number of shortcomings, which can be summarized above all in a lack of coordination and strategies. This results in low management efficiency, which can be improved by adopting common objectives, strategies and management tools at the Upper Adriatic level.

The challenge of TRECap is to set this process in motion through the joint implementation of some exemplary actions. Attention has been drawn to a threat, climate change, which is severely affecting our marine environment, and to a species, Pinna nobilis, which is threatened with extinction but still present in the upper Adriatic, to start developing joint management strategies. All actions will be accompanied by further communication and training activities to promote this transboundary vision and enable its transferability and sustainability.
