ECORD is the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling.
ECORD is a management structure of 15 members (14 European countries and Canada) for scientific ocean drilling as part of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) “Exploring the Earth under the sea” and previously the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program – IODP from 2003 to 2013.
The ECORD Science Support and Advisory Committee (ESSAC) is responsible for the scientific and technological planning and coordination of ECORD’s contribution to IODP. The activity of ESSAC is supported by the ESSAC Office, supervised by the ESSAC Chair and staffed with an ESSAC Science Coordinator.
From January 1st 2022 to December 31st 2023, the ESSAC Office will be located at OGS, with Dr. Angelo Camerlenghi in the role of Chair. The ESSAC Science Coordinator will be Dr. Hanno Kinkel.
IODP
The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) is an international research program that explores the history and structure of the Earth as recorded in seafloor sediments and rocks.
IODP-ITALIA
The participation of the Italian scientific community in the IODP program by joining ECORD is made possible by funding from the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) to the ECORD infrastructure managed by the CNR - Department of Earth System Sciences and Technologies for Environment (DSSTTA) and an advisory commission for the coordination of the Italian participation in ECORD-IODP and ICDP chaired by Prof. Elisabetta Erba (University of Milano).
