Marine technologies: results and prospects of CITEM
On Monday 16 December, the presentation of the results of the Centre for Innovation in Marine Technologies (CITEM) took place at the Municipality of Livorno. All the research centres at the Scoglio della Regina and Dogana d'Acqua sites, including the OGS, gave an overview of their activities in 2024. These activities covered various fields, including environmental research, meteorology, marine biology, telecommunications, oceanography, logistics, marine biorobotics and mechanical intelligence systems.
The OGS opened its headquarters in Livorno in February last year and became part of the centre to contribute its expertise to research activities and analyses in the local, regional and North Tyrolean marine and coastal areas. Currently, the organisation's staff are focusing on applying the ecosystem approach to fisheries in the Tyrrhenian Sea, analysing the impact of invasive marine species and studying how oceanographic variables influence the movements and behaviour of marine mammals. Further activities are in preparation.
Other institutions of the Centre participating in the meeting were the CNIT (National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications), two research groups of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (the Institute of Biorobotics and the Institute of Mechanical Intelligence), LaMMA (Laboratory of Environmental Monitoring and Modelling for Sustainable Development), a public consortium between the Tuscany Region and the National Research Council (CNR), CIBM (Consortium for the Interuniversity Centre for Marine Biology and Applied Ecology “G. Bacci”), ISPRA and CNR IBE.
