NAMIRS: a two years project for a common incident response strategy in the North Adriatic Area
Representatives from Italy, Croatia and Slovenia gathered today at the Central European Initiative’s Headquarters for the final conference of the project North Adriatic Maritime Incident Response System (NAMIRS) aimed to establishing a common mechanism for the safeguard of the North Adriatic basin in case of oil spills.
The project, led by the CEI and co-financed by the European Union, brought together the Italian Coast Guard, the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia, the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, the Adriatic Training and Research Centre for Accidental Marine Pollution Preparedness Response (ATRAC), the University of Ljubljana and Trasport Portoroz, and the OGS.
During the past two years, project partners coordinated their activities and developed actions which led to impressive achievements: advanced technical trainings for at sea response and on shore cleaning; joint risk assessment for the North Adriatic basin, identifying priorities and sensitive areas; the first joint full-scale operation in the North Adriatic that took place in the Gulf of Trieste the past 20th of November.
