Visit of the Minister of University and Research, Senator Anna Maria Bernini
The Minister of University and Research, Senator Anna Maria Bernini, today visited the icebreaker Laura Bassi in Trieste and met with the researchers and crew of the vessel that, during the last expedition to Antarctica, reached the southernmost point ever reached by a ship.
Minister Bernini was received by the President of the OGS, Nicola Casagli, accompanied by the General Director Paola Del Negro and by Franco Coren, Director of the Naval Infrastructure Management Center of the OGS. Representatives of the main institutions of Friuli Venezia Giulia were also present during the visit.
Together with Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, the Minister affixed the coat of arms of the City of Trieste on a wall of the bridge, which the OGS had received as a gift from the Municipality on May 30 on the occasion of the handover of the fourteenth century seal.
As stated by Minister Bernini, "it is an honor for me to be on board this ship that sets out on a new mission. A ship named after Laura Bassi, an important reference figure in science and for women".
