Welcome to POLARIN, a network for the shared use of polar research infrastructures at a European level

POLARIN, Polar Research Infrastructure Network, the European project coordinated by the Alfred Wegener Institute and involving numerous international partners, including the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS, with the aim of creating a network for the joint use of infrastructures for polar research at European level, has officially begun.

The polar regions play a central role in the Earth system and are particularly important for our climate. In order to understand and predict the complex processes taking place in these regions and to provide data-driven information, the polar research community needs access to world-class research infrastructures that can operate in these regions.

POLARIN therefore intends to provide access to 64 key polar research infrastructures, such as research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic, research vessels and icebreakers operating at both poles, observatories both on land and at sea, ice core and sediment data infrastructures and archives.

The research infrastructures provided by Italy include the Mario Zucchelli Station, the Italian-French Concordia Station, the Laura Bassi icebreaker, the Italian National Antarctic Data Center (NADC) and the Italian Arctic Data Center (IADC)
