Identification and mapping of areas suitable for aquaculture (AZA)
Project funded by Regione Lazio within the European Fund for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EMFF, Regulation 508/2014 / EU), it promotes the blue economy and the coordinated planning of maritime spaces for the sustainable development of aquaculture, protection of ecosystems, the reduction of potential environmental impacts and conflicts in the regional “sea system”.
The project is coordinated by ISPRA, collaborating with the Regional Directorate "Agriculture, Promotion of the Food, Hunting and Fishing Industry and Culture" of the Lazio Region, ARPA Lazio and OGS.
The project identifies new marine areas to be assigned to aquaculture (AZA - Allocated Zones for Aquaculture), monitoring protocols to reduce environmental interactions and it promotes the ecosystem approach and the sustainable use of resources in coastal marine areas. Consultation with Competent Authorities and stakeholders is an integral part of the process of reaching consensus on AZAs.
