Profile
Milena Menna earned her PhD in Science and Engineering of the Sea at University of Naples Federico II in 2008. She has worked at OGS since 2008, where she has held a temporary research position since 2012 and a permanent one since 2018. She is currently editor-in-chief of the Bulletin of Geophysics and Oceanography (ISSN 2785-2970), contract lecturer in Oceanography at the University of Trieste and manager of the OGS Mediterranean Drifter Database.
Her research focuses on ocean circulation, mesoscale and sub-basin scale eddies, currents and water mass properties in semi-enclosed seas and polar regions, remote sensing (satellites) and autonomous oceanographic instruments (drifter and floats). Recently, she has become increasingly fascinated by the study of extreme events and their impacts on the marine environment. Milena has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers in marine and environmental sciences, contributed four datasets, and co-authored a book chapter. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Discovery Oceans (Springer Nature), Reviewer Editor for Frontiers in Marine Science and Guest Editor for Ocean Science (EGU) and Remote Sensing (MDPI). She also frequently reviews papers for various scientific journals.
